Jogja Tourism - Find Your Best Corner to Visit When Stay in Special Region of Yogyakarta

Yogyakart,a City, as part of Special Region of Yogyakarta is also called as Jogja. As tourism city, there so many visitors from some countries like United States (US), Russia, Japan, Netherland, Germany, Swedia, Denmark, Italy, England, France, Belgium, China, and other countries around the world, Europe or Asia. 

Jogja, this one of the oldest cities in Indonesia is known as a city that has many heritage buildings and monuments. 

Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono's palace attraction is the number one must-see when you are in Special Region of Yogyakarta as Jogja Tourism. 

The palace is known as Kraton Ngayogyakarta or Kraton or Sultan's Palace. 

There are so many other heritage buildings from colonial era. 

Some place that are located near Sultan's palace: BNI '46 building, Kantor Pos Besar (Central Post Office) building, and Bank Indonesia building.

Others, there are landmarks and attractions in Ngayogyakarta as part of Jogja Tourism:

1. Tugu

Monument that is located in the center of downtown Yogyakarta. The monument built by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VI, with the top spire was originally a round sphere. 

This represents the universe. During the colonial era, the spire was replaced with a golden cylinder.

2. Benteng Vredeburg

Benteng Vredeburg located at Jl. Jenderal Ahmad Yani Yogyakarta. A Dutch fort with the Dutch colonial architecture is located in front of Gedung Agung or President's Palace.

A few warfare items are still preserved, including a twin cannon.

3. Kota Gede

Kota Gede is the capital of ancient Islamic Mataram kingdom. 

There is also the tomb of Mataram Kingdom's first king, Panembahan Senopati.

Long time ago - before independence - Kotagede was the central economic district of Yogyakarta. Here was held the largest marketplace and was home to many wealthy batik merchants. 

Nowadays, some ancient buildings have been modernized or replaced with newer buildings. Noted, Kotagede remains a prime example of ancient Javanese architecture and city structure. 

The place is now known as as the "silver village". When you are here, be sure to check out the local silver handicrafts when you tour the workshops there. 

4. Imogiri

Here is Graveyard of the Yogyakarta and Surakarta royal families. Some great craft villages near here specializing in batik and potterySuffered damage during 2006 earthquake but has reopened.

5. Kotabaru

Kotabaru is known as area which used to be Dutch officials residential area, has few heritage homes as well as a colonial style church and monastery (Gereja Kotabaru) and a stadium (Stadion Kridosono).
