Studying Tropical Diseases in Indonesia

Dozens of students from 11 countries attending briefly in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta FKIK, Indonesia. Rector Prof Dr Bambang Cipto UMY said it earlier this week, Asri Medical Centre in Yogyakarta.

Eleven countries sent representatives that students are Dutch, Czech Republic, England, Italy, Canada, South Korea, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, France, and Switzerland. They learn about Tropical Diseases in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta FKIK. Lecture conducted for 17 hours.

Through the program ITMSS (International Tropical Medicine Summer School) foreign students will also be introduced to the Indonesian culture.

Prof Dr Bambang expect, foreign students will get a new experience that can not be found in their home country, respectively. "Especially with regard to the disease and the treatment of tropical diseases," he said in the presence of the foreign students, the opening ITMSS, Asri Medical Centre in Yogyakarta, on Monday (30/06/2014) night.

And treatment of tropical diseases to be studied include hemorrhagic fever (DHF), tuberculosis (TB), and malaria. Chairman of the committee ITMSS 10th, Nikma Kurnianingtyas Bekti said, the students will attend a series of activities such as lectures, lab, lab skills, visits to hospitals and health centers, as well as tutorials.

In general, she described, the guests will like the student was educated in general. They also live in a student house who are willing to host or hosting family.

The number of ITMSS participants now less than previous years. "Because conjunction with the fasting month so we have to advance the date of its execution and in the participant's home country is not all start the summer holidays so that the number of participants this year only fifteen people".

For non-educational activities, the participants will do social service in the village Sembungan, Bantul, Yogyakarta, form of education about hygiene, free medical treatment, and distribution of basic necessities. Introduction Cultures will also be done through cultural performances as well as serving food and beverages from their respective countries.
